Katie Brewer serves as a policy analyst , provides expert analysis on areas of disaster preparedness and response, immunizations, global health, and public health nursing. 

She is ANA’s liaison to the Joint Commission, and assists in the development and revision work with the various scope and standards of nursing. 

She is the project director for ANA’s immunization initiative Bringing Immunity for Every Community, a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 

She is ANA’s representative to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, the federal committee advising the CDC on immunization science-based policy.  Prior to joining ANA, Ms. Brewer was a senior public health nurse in Arlington, Va., a semi-urban community just outside Washington DC. 

Here she held positions as the Immunization Clinical Services Coordinator, and the Coordinator of a newborn/post-partum home visiting program.  She was instrumental in emergency planning and response, and honed important skills in risk communication and health communication. 

She has a BA in Journalism from the Pennsylvania State University, a BSN from Columbia University, and an MSN from the University of Virginia.

BIRDS OF PARADISE

2 lbs boneless chicken breasts, 2 egg whites, 1/4 c olive oil, 1/2 c parmesan, 1/2 c bread crumbs, seasoning of your choice, 1 1/2 c chicken broth, 2/3 c cheap white wine

 Whip egg whites with a fork in one bowl, then combine parmesan and bread crumbs in another, coat chicken w/egg white, then with crumb mixture and a sprinkiling of seasoning of your choice.Heat up skillet with olive oil and sear chicken-breasts do not have to be totally cooked.  Arrange breasts in cooking pan for oven, pour mixture of chicken broth, white wine and remaining olive oil from pan over breasts.  Take remaining cheese and bread crumbs and sprinkle over mixture.  Put pan in oven for 1 hour at 350 degrees, watch cheese "sprinkles" for browning, put aluminum foil on top of pan if becoming too brown. 

FRUIT SMOOTHIE

1 cup fresh or frozen fruit (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries or frozen peaches), 1 scoop of protein powder (preferable whey or soy), 8 oz. plain filtered water, diet sweetener to taste, 1 Tbs. Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Flaxseed Oil. Place all in blender & blend until rich and creamy, approx 2-3 minutes. Makes 1 serving.
