About Us

Scotland County Hospital Facts

  • Scotland County Hospital’s (SCH) mission is “to improve the healthcare of our communities with services close to home”.  At SCH, we take this mission statement to the next level, to not only care for the community when they walk in the door, but to reach out into the communities we serve.
  • Scotland County Hospital is a twenty-five bed, not-for-profit critical access hospital located in extreme Northeast Missouri.
  • SCH was established in 1970 and has continually provided healthcare services for northeast Missouri over the past 40 years.
  • As the only hospital in a five (5) county (10,000 square mile) area, SCH provides essential medical care to nearly 21,000 permanent residents of the state.
  • Access to affordable quality healthcare services is an ongoing challenge for all Americans.  The challenge in rural communities is compounded by the distance a patient must travel to access medical care and scarcity of medical services.
  • SCH is located in and provides services in officially designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) and Medically Underserved Areas (MUAs)
  • We feel deeply that being rural does not mean essential healthcare should not be accessible.
  • SCH is the largest employer in Memphis, with nearly 200 employees.
