Welcome Home, Dr. Wilson!

7/29/2015

Scotland County Hospital Board of Directors and Administration is pleased to welcome Shane Wilson, DO, to the medical staff.  Dr. Wilson is a native of Scotland County, a 1992 graduate from SCR-1 and the son of Bud & Brenda Wilson of Memphis.  Dr. Wilson is a 2012 graduate from A. T. Still University in Kirksville.  He earned a B.A. in biology from Westminster College in Fulton, MO, in 2007, where he graduated summa cum laude.  He had a career as a paramedic before attending medical school.

He recently completed an Internal Medicine residency at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.  Dr. Wilson earned a number of awards during his residency training.  He was  recognized for service as "Co-Chief Resident Over All Programs", voted by his peers to earn the "Master Teacher Award" and awarded the "Dedication to Education Award" by the Director of Medical Education, Dr. Kent Blanke.

Dr. Wilson specializes in Internal Medicine.  Internists specialize in the diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases in adults. They are dedicated to solving complicated medical issues and handling acute and chronic illness as well as multiple illnesses that may occur at the same time.  He has special interests in critical care and inpatient hospital medicine.

Most mornings during the week, you will find Dr. Wilson making rounds on inpatients at Scotland County Hospital.  He is taking on the role of Hospitalist for patients that have been admitted to the hospital.  Hospitalists are physicians whose primary professional focus is the general medical care of hospitalized patients.  Inpatients will now be seen by Dr. Wilson rather than their primary care physician when they are hospitalized and then return to their primary physician upon discharge for follow up.  Dr. Wilson has contact with the in-patient's primary care physician during their hospitalization.  The benefit to patients of the Hospitalist care model is a continuity of care, with a standardized approach to hospitalized patients.  Hospitalist programs improve outcomes, reduce length of stay & enhance inner hospital efficiency.  In the afternoons, Dr. Wilson will see patients at Memphis Medical Services.  To make a clinic appointment with Dr. Wilson, please call Memphis Medical Services at 660-465-2828.

Dr. Wilson has made his home south of Memphis.  He has two children and in his spare time he enjoys hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and family.  Welcome home, Dr. Wilson!
